Kaszuby is the historical region of Poland, a part of Pomerania (Polish: Pomorze). In the village Szymbark (on the route Kartuzy – Kościerzyna, about 60 km south of Gdańsk) You can see graphic Kashubian basal reader (ABC).

Main cities of Kaszuby region are: Wejherowo, Kartuzy, Puck, Chojnice, Kościerzyna. The capitol of Kaszuby is Kartuzy (some people claim that Kościerzyna). Gdańsk is the official residence of the most important Kashubian organizations.

Kashubian or Cassubian (Kashubian: kaszëbsczi jãzëk, pòmòrsczi jãzëk, kaszëbskò-słowińskô mòwa; Polish: język kaszubski) is one of the Lechitic languages, a subgroup of the Slavic languages.

Kashubian is assumed to have evolved from the language spoken by some tribes of Pomeranians called Kashubians, in the region of Pomerania, on the southern coast of the Baltic Sea between the Vistula and Oder rivers.

It is closely related to Slovincian, and both of them are dialects of Pomeranian. Though the Kashubian language can hardly be understood by Polish speakers, until recently many Polish linguists considered it a dialect of Polish, although this has been caused mostly by political decree.

Similarly to Polish, Kashubian includes numerous loanwords from Low German, such as kùńszt (art), and some from German. Other sources of loanwords include the Baltic languages, Russian and Polish.

Elbląg Canal (Polish: Kanał Elbląski, German: Oberländischer Kanal) is a canal in Poland, in Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, 80.5 km in length, which runs southward from Lake Druzno (connected by the river Elbląg to the Vistula Lagoon), to the river Drwęca and lake Jeziorak. It can accommodate small vessels up to 50 tons displacement. The difference in water levels approaches 100 m, and is overcome using locks and a remarkable system of tracks between lakes.
Today it is used mainly for recreational purposes. It is considered one of the most significant monuments related to the history of technology in Poland and in Europe (even in the world). It has recently been named one of Seven Wonders of Poland. More info… More photos..
